Squarespace vs AppFlow: Beautiful Site, or a Full Front Desk?

Aglet Technologies

Squarespace makes the best-looking site of any builder and handles light scheduling. AppFlow trades template choice for depth in bookings, deposits, CRM and follow-up.

Squarespace makes the nicest-looking websites of any builder, and it is not close. If your business is judged on taste — a day spa, a photographer, a restaurant, a boutique studio — that matters commercially, not just aesthetically.

AppFlow is a different kind of tool. It is the platform we built for service businesses that live and die by the calendar, and its website is a means to an end. Here is the honest split.

What you are comparing

Squarespace is a design-led website builder with scheduling available as part of the family. You get templates a professional would not be embarrassed by, a decent blog, and an appointment tool that covers straightforward booking well.

AppFlow starts at the appointment. Services, durations, buffers, staff hours, deposits, bonds, customer history, memberships and campaigns are the product, and the website is generated from them.

Where Squarespace wins

  • Presentation. Nothing in this category looks better out of the box.
  • Content-heavy sites — long about pages, galleries, editorial blogs.
  • Simple, single-operator scheduling where every appointment is roughly the same shape.
  • Selling a handful of products alongside a strong brand story.

If the website *is* the marketing asset, and bookings are a convenience on top, Squarespace is a defensible choice.

Where the model runs out

One-shape appointments

Service businesses are full of exceptions. A colour needs a buffer that a fringe trim does not. A mobile detail needs travel time and a service area. A hire booking is a date range against a physical unit, not a 45-minute slot. A class has capacity and a waitlist. Light scheduling tools flatten all of that into "appointment", and staff paper over the difference by hand.

Money rules that vary by service

Free to book the consult, deposit for the treatment, full payment for the class pack, bond held for the trailer. That is four payment behaviours in one business, and they need to live on the service, not on a global toggle.

The customer after the appointment

A site does not know that someone who came every six weeks has not booked in three months. AppFlow does, and it can send that person something without you remembering to.

Two systems, one business

The moment scheduling and site are separate products, your customer list splits in two. Then someone exports a CSV to run a promotion, and the list is out of date the day after it is pulled.

What AppFlow gives you instead

  • Availability built from real staff hours, durations, buffers, lead times and booking windows
  • Per-service payment: none, deposit, full payment, or a held security bond
  • Your own Stripe or Square account, so money lands with you directly
  • A site on your own domain with pages, blog, forms and per-page SEO — from the entry plan
  • Client CRM with history, documents, saved cards and messages
  • Memberships and a credit ledger, so class packs and monthly plans actually track
  • Automated reminders, win-backs and review requests, plus segmented campaigns
  • Timesheets with Xero payroll export, a product shop, multi-location and service areas

Design: the fair criticism

You will not get Squarespace-level template freedom from AppFlow. What you get is a site that carries your logo, colours and services, built from industry templates, with the booking flow native to it rather than embedded into it. For most trades that trade-off is worth it; for a brand where the site is the showpiece, it might not be, and we will say so on the phone.

There is a middle path we set up often: keep the Squarespace site, embed the AppFlow booking flow inline, and let the platform run everything behind the appointment.

Cost

AppFlow is $39/month for site and booking page, $59 with the management app, $99 for team calendars, CRM and embeds, $169 for multi-site with marketing. No setup fee, no lock-in, AUD, processing fees separate.

Squarespace charges for the site plan, with scheduling priced separately by tier and features like memberships or advanced marketing adding more. Add your real total, including anything you pay for email marketing.

Plan names and prices move around on every platform, ours included. The AppFlow figures here are the public ones on appflow.com.au at the time of writing — check the competitor's current pricing page before you decide.

Which one

Choose Squarespace when the website carries the business and bookings are simple. Choose AppFlow when the calendar carries the business and the website's job is to fill it.
